Das Boat Season 1

Off the Grid Studios partnered with MeatEater to produce the first season of Das Boat, a groundbreaking fishing series that reimagines what an outdoor show can be. The concept was simple but genius—take a beat-up aluminum boat found in a backyard, rebuild it one piece at a time, and send it on a cross-country journey through America’s most iconic fisheries. Each episode followed a new host who modified the boat in their own way, from rewiring the motor to welding rod racks, before setting out to chase regional fish species. The result was a raw, funny, and deeply human look at fishing culture across the U.S.

As MeatEater’s production partner, Off the Grid Studios was responsible for bringing Das Boat’s visual and narrative identity to life. Known for their cinematic approach to outdoor storytelling, the Off the Grid team captured the grit, creativity, and humor that defined the series—turning a simple DIY fishing project into a cinematic road movie on water. From dawn-to-dusk filming to the unpredictable chaos of travel and weather, their crew followed the story wherever it drifted, blending documentary realism with an adventurous visual style that became Das Boat’s signature.

Together, MeatEater and Off the Grid created more than a fishing show—they built a love letter to resourcefulness, exploration, and community. Season 1 of Das Boat struck a chord with viewers by celebrating the imperfections and ingenuity of everyday anglers. It’s about fixing what’s broken, making do with what you have, and finding joy in the process—values that perfectly align with Off the Grid’s mission to tell authentic, character-driven stories from the outdoors.
